A Holistic Approach to Mental Health
Recently, there has been a huge movement to promote awareness around mental health.
Media attention in this area has been focused on reducing the stigma associated with mental illness and helping people understand what mental health is all about.
Often mental health can be an area we fail to pay close attention to, but it is extremely important to our everyday functioning.
Your mental health includes emotional, psychological and social well-being. Because it can affect how you feel, think and act doesn’t it deserve as much attention as your physical health?
Some of the most common mental health diagnoses include anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and biplor disorder.
If you’ve noticed any of the following symptoms, it may be time to speak to someone about your mental health:
- excessive feelings of anxiety or stress
- uncontrollable worrying and/or fear
- sleep disturbance
- lack of concentration
- recent social withdrawal from friends and family
- feelings of helplessness or hopelessness
- appetite or weight changes
- loss of motivation to participate in activity
- dramatic mood swings
- racing thoughts
Now, just because you may suffer from some of these symptoms does not mean that you have a mental illness – maybe you just need a break. Either way, it can be extremely helpful to seek the advice of a health professional.
