Naturopathic Medicine is a unique, primary health care system that is focused on disease prevention and health promotion. Naturopathic medicine uses natural therapies, which include: traditional Chinese medicine/acupuncture, botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, physical medicine and lifestyle counseling. Naturopathic medicine blends these modalities with modern scientific diagnostics and medical standards of care.
Our naturopathic doctor can manage all aspects of patient care from diagnosis to treatment. At Simcoe Place Health Clinic we value the individuality of each patient and recognize that patients are not just a collection of symptoms. Our naturopathic doctor emphasizes the importance of considering the physical, mental, emotional, social, and environmental factors that may be impacting the state of an individual’s health—seeking to determine the underlying cause of illness and prescribe treatment to support the body’s inherent self-healing process.
By taking the time with our patients, providing support, and offering various treatment options, our naturopathic doctor helps people achieve optimal health. Naturopathic doctors can play an integral role in a patient’s health care team, and compliment other health care practitioners in order to provide the most complete system of care. They are trained to recognize conditions outside of their scope and to refer to other health practitioners when it is appropriate to do so.
At Simcoe Place Health Clinic, our naturopathic doctor adheres to the same six principles that guide all naturopathic doctors.
Do No Harm
Naturopathic doctors use diagnostic methods and therapies that are safe and effective and minimize the risk of harmful side effects.
The Healing Power of Nature
Naturopathic doctors support the healing power of the body by recognizing and removing obstacles to the body’s inherent self-healing process.
Identify and Treat the Cause
The primary goal of your naturopathic doctor is to identify and remove the underlying causes of illness, rather than simply suppressing symptoms.
Doctor as Teacher
Naturopathic doctors teach the principles of healthy living and preventative medicine by assisting patients in understanding health and disease. We develop a strong doctor-patient relationship while encouraging individual responsibility for health.
Treat the Whole Person
Each patient is unique. We formulate individualized treatment plans that incorporate the physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental and social factors that contribute to illness.
Disease Prevention and Health Promotion
By applying all of the above principals, naturopathic doctors recommend appropriate naturopathic interventions to prevent illness and promote health.
At Simcoe Place Health Clinic our Naturopathic Doctors use a variety of assessment tools, both conventional and naturopathic, in diagnosing health concerns and prescribing the most effective treatment program. Currently, in Ontario, the naturopathic medical system is governed by stringent regulations and guidelines. The framework includes education at an accredited institution, professional licensing, provincial standards of practice, and a commitment to ongoing research and education.
